eBay India’s manager Muralikrishnan B. recently told the BBC: ‘The huge proliferation of retail malls has increased awareness of the latest brands and products…As a result, the Indian e-commerce market is growing rapidly; in fact it's exploding.’
He foresees that the nation will become one of the top ten online retail markets in the world, by 2015.
Amazon is considering entering India, as well, and this “Clash of the Titans”, according to Muralikrishnan, will drive the exponential growth of the sector.
The revolution will be possible thanks to two crucial factors: the number of Internet users grows considerably every day (from 65m now, to an estimated 300m in 2014), and the customers’ tastes have changed in the last years, opening the doors to foreign brands, in a proliferation of shopping malls.
Flipkart aka “India’s Amazon”, and Dealite.in are the players to watch: the former is counting up to eight millions visitors a month, the latter is growing in popularity and moving fast in the social media arena. Its founder, Vijayanand Shekokar, shared a thought about the situation: "Everybody is a deal seeker here…If you're able to give Indians the right kind of price point, that's what makes the market click, and you can taste the success of it."
Moreover, smartphones and related shopping apps are mushrooming everywhere; according to IT market research group Gartner, 50% of brands’ web sales worldwide will be generated via social media channels and mobile apps, by 2015.
From the exotic colours and spices of India to the home counties of England.
Over here, as well, eCommerce is going strong, and fCommerce is taking off; we recently had the chance to work with fashion brand Hedonia (http://www.hedonia.co.uk/), creating an eCommerce website ‘where the stylish girl-about-town will find anything from chic blouses to fierce body cons. Each of Hedonia’s pieces are the epitome of luxury, each being made with high-quality fabrics such as vintage silks, faux furs, suedettes and laces.’

The brand is very tech-savvy: they have thousands of followers on Twitter and Facebook, and a pretty cool Tumblr blog.
The website offers a smooth user experience, and it has been built using our fashion eCommerce platform, with integration to Sage Pay for an easy and fast transaction.
